St. Valentine was martyred for performing marriages forbidden by law, so this is a day I often think about marriages that would have been legally difficult until very recently, and marriages where the spouses would have reason to anticipate friction around their union, whether with their families of origin or with society at large. I’m thinking particularly about two of my friends sharing their first wedded Valentine’s day together. May y’all have to deal with as little of that external friction as possible, and may you fulfill your hopes and plans for a union that is faithful, fruitful, and felicitous. Sorry if this is weird lol.
