the fairy deal
it’s starting to get evening chilly but the sun is still shining through the new golden-green leaves. it makes her think of nothing gold can stay. it makes her think of the trees. are there early-spring poems that aren’t about loss & she just can’t remember them?
she has recently fielded the kind of offer which she has no resaon to think would be a good deal for her, which she in fact has serious reason to think would be a bad deal for her. when she thinks about the offer practically she cannot generate heavier evidence that it would work than evidence that it wouldn’t. when she thinks about it as if she is telling a story, she does not think an audience would find it convincing. the fact that she continues to think about it all convinces her there is some additional danger in question. she tries in various ways to tie herself to the mast. but the reason that worked for odysseus is that he was in a moving ship.
