i’ve mentioned before how i feel that modern novels fall flat when they’re trying to be extremely online, but certain much older stories feel inarguably like they’re about extremely online people. the bostonians is 1886’s most online novel
the basic plot:
a high-follower hot girl leftist account captures the attn of a sex negative feminist w lots of cash & social ambitions, & the heart of a trad mississippi boy w a law degree whose unemployment gives him plenty of time to post...the bostonians
i didnt have to alter it much to make it twitter drama. the vertex of the love triangle is a charismatic public speaker, which was what egirls did in 1886.
this was very poorly reviewed when it came out, which i feel justifies me in saying it’s ahead of its time.
